2ND KENTUCKY CAVALRY REGIMENT
Organization:
Organized by the increase of Morgan's Cavalry Squadron (four companies) to a regiment with the addition of three companies at Chattanooga, Tennessee in June 1862. Companies K, L, and M were organized in July and August 1862. Company H was assigned on September 1, 1862. 1st Company I was transferred to the 9th Cavalry Regiment and 2nd Company I was assigned on September 10, 1862. The regiment was eventually reduced to 10 companies.
Captured during Morgan's Ohio Raid in July 1863.

Organization:
Organized from the remnants of John Hunt Morgan's old command in the spring of 1864. Disbanded by Brigadier General John Echols, commanding Department of Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee, at Christianburg, Virginia on April 12, 1865.
[NOTE: Part of this command joined President Jefferson Davis' escort on his flight from Richmond.]
