Titanic at Queenstown
April 11th 1912

Queenstown (now Cobh) Co. CorkThe Titanic arrived at Queenstown on 11th April 1912 at 11:30am. As the liner was too big to enter the harbour she anchored offshore and tenders were used to ferry passengers and mail from the White Star offices on the quayside to the liner. The two White Star tenders used in this operation were named "America" and "Ireland". Seven passengers who had paid £4 to travel from Southampton to Queenstown disembarked. One of these passengers was Fr. Francis Browne. Fr. Browne was a keen photographer and it is from his camera that we get a final glimpse of life aboard the ship. A crewman, who was from Queenstown, managed to desert the ship. Having taken on her passengers and 1,385 sacks of mail Titanic departed from Queenstown at 1:30pm. Fr. Browne took a final photograph as the liner disappeared over the horizon
