Fascinating website. I am descended from John William Hood (1759-1827) and Rebecca Reeves (1763-1837) and their son Burwell Hood, then on thru E.D. Hood, Richard Elza Hood, Odie Raymond Hood, Floyd Raymond Hood, and Floyd Marvin Hood (my father). I would like to find information regarding the ancestors of John William and Rebecca Reeves Hood.

Great info! Is anyone out there researching the family of my gr (x4) grandparents Allen and Nancy Hood? Allen was born about 1783 in SC, Nancy about 1786 also in SC. In 1850 they lived in Troy, Obion Co., Tenn.. From his will, I believe Allen died in 185 in Obion County, I'm not sure when Nancy did. Their daughter Elizabeth married William B. Harper in 1848 (my gr (x3)grandparents) in Obion County, Tenn.. Allen and Nancy also had children Caroline (m. Hogue), Samuel J., and Eliza Jane (m. Anderson). If a yone is researching this family, I would like to exchange info. Thanks, Dave

Sorry I'm listed twice. I'm looking for "Henry Hood" and 2 of his brothers that came to Louisiana from Kentucky around 1809. This Henry Hood had a son named Henry C. Hood b. 4 Nov 1808 in Kentucky, who married Kesiver Wiley on 19 Apr. 1832, and died 22 Ma 1906 in Port Vincent, Louisiana. I can't seem to trace my "Hood" roots past this Kentucky connection. If anyone has any info, I'd love to hear about it. Great Site, thanks.

I think yhe name of the road was the Greensburgh Pike. There was a community on the Pike named Gabel's Corner. There may be signs on the road marking that location. The place is at a Tee in the road where a road comes from the South and ends at the Pike. here are two cemeteries adjacent to each other on this road ending at the Pike. One is Old Saint Mary's, a Catholic cemetery. The other is supposedly a Protestant cemetery. I was told that a Gabel donated the land for one or both of the cemeteries.

Emmett was married to Elizabeth KINNISON ( big % Cherokee blood). His father, Charlie was married to Maria COCKRELL (50-100% Cherokee). I also have a loose end: Emmett was married to Jane Delaplane WILSON. No one knows where she came from. We do not know the ancestory of Charlie HOOD, b. July 1838 (maybe MO). Most of our living HOOD's are in Welch OK. Appreciate your ear! Warren (909) 886-8500

Your Hood information is more complete than mine and very interesting. My Grandfa her, Robert S. Adair (son of R.S. in your outline) became a Methodist minister and went to to the San Antonio,Texas region. I'm not sure just when, but probably in the early 1900's. I have always wondered why. Perhaps it was because some of his mothers re atives lived there. I recall my mother saying he had a rough time after his mother (Eliza) died, and he was raised by an older sister. This goes back to Domnall Brecc, the Speckled of Argyl, King of Scots, who died in 643; and also back to the ancient Kings of Ireland, back to u Chorb in the late 300s or early 400s. Hi Roger: I think I might have a possible identification for the Jane Freeman who married Westbrook Berry. I have a Jane Freeman, born Nov. 7, 1732, who moved to Maine from Massachusetts sometime before 1759. Her parents were Jonathan Freeman and Rebecca Binne . She had a brother Jonathan who married Sarah Parker in Falmouth, Maine in 1759. I noticed that the names Jonathan, Rebecca and Sarah appear as children of Westbrook and Jane, which adds some creedence (if not definitive proof). Also, Jane's aunt -- Eun ce Freeman -- married a Crocker as well. All circumstantial evidence of course, but intriguing. Also, I wonder if you have run across the name Judah Berry. I have two of them in my Freeman line and cannot determine their origins. One of them married Mary Freeman in 1713 (probably in Eastham, MA) and they had Lemuel, Theophilus, and Mary. The econd Judah was born December 24, 1743, and married Grace Freeman on Dec. 6, 1770 (probably in Harwich, MA). They had as children Lemuel, Lydia, Polly, Samuel and Judah. If you know about any of these I would be thrilled to hear about it and share any info I might have. Cheers, Ruth

He was living in SC (Greenville Co. area) late 1700s (where his daughter Nancy m Thomas GAW in 1799. They moved to Jackson Co., TN in 1812). Thomas HOOD filed Rev. War Pension application from Jackson Co. TN in 1834, stating he was s/o John HOOD and he had lived in TN "20 years". His pension referred to his "Uncle, John Chapman" living in NC. Good luck with your research. :)

Hello! It was so nice to discover your site. I am interested in the Hood family from Parker Co. TX. Azariah Jessie and his sister Sarah Vestal (my gr-grandmother). I understand AJ was b Lancanster SC area, Sarah in MS.AJ was an attorney and judge Ft. Wort area 1870's. Have been unable to determine positively their parents names, though I believe their father was Humphrey, son of Austin (they both named a son Humphrey Austin!). Any help greatly appreciated! I was also told a story by my mother that they we t to TX in early 30's and visited other Hood cousins that lived in a "mansion". Thanks!

Hi, My name is Bob Hood. I was browsing the net and decided to look and see if I could find anything about the Hood Family. I have been interested in the family tree for a long time, but have had little luck obtaining information on my "branch". I found t e name traced as far back as 1200's and the first Hood name appeared to be a derivative of the the name Hod. Robert Obernus Hod was a "Hood maker" for falcons used for hunting. The information that I found indicated that the name was given because we Hood were hoodmakers. I don't know if that is accurate, but that is what the information I received stated. Apparently, Hoods hand crafted falconry hoods for the hierarchy during that time. I received a copy of what was supposed to be the Hood Family Crest of Arms. The Family Crest had a Knights helmet with a pergrine falcon sitting on top complete with a "hood". Under the helmet was a set of three half moons turned upside down and all in a row. This was supposed to reflect that there were three Hood sons that fought and died in the Crusades. I found all of this relatively interesting due to the fact that have always been a bird appreciator. I too have been involved with the training of falcons and hawks for hunting purposes. I also raised ostriches and emus. Never did make any hoods for the ostriches tho'. ha I don't really know if this information is ev n remotely accurate, but I did get it through a mini search on my part. I have a copy of the family crest at home and was just wandering if anyone else had received any of the same info. I can only go back as far as my Grandparents on the Hood side of the family. Grandpa's name was Robert Connelly Hood. He was from the Oklahoma area with brief stints in Missouri and Colorado. He married Mary Francis Hickman ( nicknamed Maime ). I don't know where Grandma was from, and have never really researched any furth r than right here. I don't know if any of this information will help anyone else that could be looking, but I thought I'd put it here for someone else to look at. If anyone has any information, you can contact me at hoodrl@poncacity.net. I have been livin in Oklahoma since 1963. The direct decendants of my Grandfather were: Henry,Basil,Ruby,Grace,Nadine, and my father William R. Hood.I don't have any info about Grandma's family at all. Sorry to write such a book, but I know sometimes every little bit helps when you're trying to compile information. Thanks for the time and space. Robert L.(Bob) Hood

She was the daughter of JohnHood What is interestin is the naming of their children;Allen,Humphrey Posey, John, WIlliam,Archibald,Kezziah Avaline,Mary, Margaret I have no idea where Elizabeth was born. Her and William Haynes after going to Missouri for awhile settled in Haywood Co.,NC not far from Anson Co.,NC where they were both buried` I do hope your research goes well.
