The Meynard HouseSan Jose, California
The most obvious landmark in Old Willow Glen is the exquisite Victorian-Age, Queen
Ann-Eclectric style mansion known as the Meynard House. At 1151 Minnesota, it
was built in 1892 from the designs of George F. Barber & Co. of Knoxville, Tennessee.
It was constructed of virgin redwood, sandstone, brick, and square nails.
It features a round corner tower surrounded by an enclosed walk, a round wooden
door, a stained glass window in the brick chimney, decorative shingles and delicately turned,
spindle porch supports.
The home serves as a private residence occupied by the owners.
Inside The Meynard Mansion
The Mansion is furnished with an abundance of exquisite furniture, artifacts
and antiques from the early 1900's to contemporary periods. The decor and
displays throughout the Mansion reflect the outstanding artistic talents of
the ownership. The photos below show three of the fireplace settings.
Victorian Styles In Willow Glen
Willow Glen has a representative selection of the popular Victorian
archetectural styles from every decade, most in good condition due the use
of redwood for construction lumber. The various styles built during the
Victorian era are known as Gothic Revival, Swiss Cottage, Italianate, Exotic
Eclectic, Second Empire, Stick and Queen Anne.
