Welcome to the biography section of Jpmaster77, here you'll find short bios of the lives of each of the band members. Read them, you might find out something that you didn't know before (James was a janitor?) Enjoy!

Kirk Hammet was born on November 18th,1962 in San Francisco, California.
His major influences were: Jimi Hendrix, Michael Scheneker, Steve Vai, The Doors, and David Bowie. His former jobs before becoming an awesome guitar player were: burger maker at Burger King and just a dude that worked at a warehouse.  He had a band before Metallica called "Exodus" which he came up with the name for.  Kirk's older brother was a big hippie and introduced kirk to the popular music of the time.  When his brother went away for school, Kirk would pick up his brother's guitar and just fool around with it.  By th time Kirk was 20 he started guitar lessons, and about two weeks later he formed Exodus.  He jammed with his band and played in clubs, the most famous of which, is the old "Whisky A-Go-Go". At this very same club is where Metallica first noticed Kirk.  Metallica kicked Dave out of the band and hired Kirk to take his place.  They made "Kill em All" and the rest is history....

James Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963 in Los Angeles, California.  His main influences were: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, and Motorhead.  His jobs before becoming the master of his domain were: janitor and a sticker factory worker.  James was the drummer in "Obsession" before he left and made Metallica with Lars Ulrich.  James is the quiet person in the band; usually in interviews he doesn't talk as much, he hates interviews.  But, when it comes to concerts, he is the master!!!! In his junior years, James and his family all moved to Brea, California.  This is where James started out with his guitar playing.  In "Obsession" he played mostly Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.  Around this time, he hooked up with Ron McGovney, who was soon to be Metallica's first bass player.  Then after, James met Lars Ulrich through a local newspaper called the "Recycler".  This is when Metallica is truely formed.  James found himself playing the guitar instead of singing so that he could concentrate on getting better at playing.  They looked for a front-man, but it never worked out.  So that's how James got stuck with the job and we can ALL be thankful for that. He Rocks!!!!!

Jason Newsted was born on March 4th, 1963 in Battle Creek, Michigan.  His influences for music and performing are all of the bass players in the bands: Kiss, Rush, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Yes.  His first jobs before replacing Cliff Burton as Metallica's bass player were: busboy and a dishwasher.  Just like Kirk, Jason had a band before he came to Metallica, it was called "Flotsam and Jetsam". Jason got his first bass when he was 13, he played with it, then got bored of it. After five years without playing, he took it out again and started to play seriously. He quit school to join his first band "Flotsam and Jetsam".  He played in clubs and at concerts and released an album with the band.  With the big loss of their master bassist, Metallica asked Jason to try out for his replacement, mainly just to jam with them and have fun.  Then the big news came, James asked Jason if he wanted to join Metallica.  Jason was so happy that in response to James' offer he screamed at the top of his lungs right in the middle of the restaurant they were eating at. Hey, who wouldn't have? I mean, come on.

Lars Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963 in Gentofte, Denmark.  Young Lars followed in the footsteps of his pro father and competed seriously in the sport right up unril his family moved to Los Angeles in 1980.  Upon realizing that his neighborhood alone was filled with good tennis players, Lars abandoned it as a career and drove head first into his other longtime passion: music, specifically drumming.  Proficient on air drums and hitting cardboard boxes with sticks at age 12, Lars talked his grandmother into buying him a drumkit in 1977 and practiced while fantasizing he was Deep Purple's Ian Paice.  He hooked up with James and gave birth to Metallica in Lars' garage. We are ALL glad that Lars made the decision to change from tennis to music, aren't we?
