The chh of Duxbury sent to us to be present by our messengers at their ordination of Mr Ichabod Wiswall to be their Pastor, on November, 24: the Pastor, Ruling Elder, Deacon Finney & Deac: Morton were chosen & then present.
REV. ICHABOD WiSWALL of Duxbury married Priscilla Pabodie3 (Elizabeth2 Alden, John1) of Duxbury. They had six children, but the births of only four, Mercy, Hannah, Peleg and Perez, were entered on the Duxbury records.* All of these, with the exception of Perez, were mentioned in their father's will, which also mentioned two other daughters, Priscilla and Deborah.
The five children who survived their father married as follows:
Mercy Wiswall4; born 4 October, 1680; died 12 November, 1716; married, 25 January, 1704/5, John Wadsworth.
Hannah Wiswall4; born 22 February, 1681 ; died 22 September, 1722; married Rev. John Robinson.
Peleg Wiswall4; born 5 February, 1683; married, in 1719 or, Elizabeth Rogers of Ipswich, and died in Boston, in 1767.
Priscilla Wiswall4, born about 1690; died in Bristol, R. I., 12 September, 1780; married in Duxbury, 23 October, 1716, Gershom4 Bradford (Samuel3 William2-1), who was born 21 December, 1691, and died in Bristol, R. I., 4 April, 1757. The two deaths are on one gravestone.
Deborah Wiswall4; born about 1693; died 22 April, 1776; married 21 October, 1717, Samuel Seabury.
Rev. Ichabod Wiswall died in Duxbury, 23 July, 1700, in his sixty-third year, and was buried in the old cemetery at South Duxbury. His widow, Priscilla, died 3 June, 1724, and was buried in the old cemetery at Kingston, Mass.

Rev. Ichabod Wiswall's Will:
Rev. Ichabod Wiswall made his will, at Duxbury, 25 May, 1700, and it was probated 19 August, 1700. The original will is still preserved in the files of the Registry of Probate at Plymouth; but it is somewhat worn, and in the copy here presented the missing words have been supplied from the copy of the will in the first volume of the Probate Records.
A careful copy of the will and inventory, and of the probate proceedings, made from the original documents, is here printed, at the expense of two members of the Massachuseffs Society of Mayflower Descendants, who have requested us not to publish their names. They are descended from Rev. Ichabod and Priscilla (Pabodie) Wiswall, through the daughter Priscilla Wiswall, who married Gershom4 Bradford.
Especial attention is called to the fact that "my Eldest Daughter the wife of Elisha Wadsworth", mentioned in the will, was Ichabod's daughter Elizabeth, by his first wife. Elisha Wadsworth and Elizabeth Wiswall were married in Duxbury, 9 December, 1694. *

[From original will] I Ichabod Wiswall of Duiborough in ye County of Plimouth being weak olf body but of [sound mind and memory praised be God for ye Same Doe make this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following that is to say hrst I Comitt my body to the Earth to be decently Buryed when it shall Please God to take me hence & my soul into the hands of God my saviour in sure & Certain hope of a ,Joyfull Resurrection & Reunion through the precious Merritts of Jesus Christ my Lord & only Redeemer. RALPH WISWELL (John, probably), a locksmith, was born about 1570 according to the Inquisition Post Mortem taken on the estate of his brother Thomas in 1619 at which time, Ralph was the next heir, aged 49 and more. At the time of his death he resided in the town of Haydock which is part of the parish of Winwick, Lancashire, and is about 6 miles north of Warrington, where his children were baptized. In the Win-wick Parish Register are the following records. Probably Ralph was the child baptized in 1569.

Wiswell is a place name deriving from the village of that name in the parish of Whalley, Lancashire. It means Wiswell, well being a spring, but what Wis means is lost to history. Wiswell is about 30 miles northeast of Haydock. Ralph Wiswell had a brother Thomas who lived in nearby Ormskirk and died on 10 April 1619, leaving no family. Ralph was the next heir as the Inquisition stated. An abstract follows.
INQUISITION taken at Preston, 7 September. 17 James [1619] before Edward Rigby, Esquire, Escheator. after the death of Thomas Wiswall. by the oath of the same Jurors, who say that Thomas Wiswall was seised in fee of 1 messuage and 2 acres of land, meadow and pasture, in Ormeskirke. which are held of William, Earl of Derby, in free socage by fealty and lad, rent, as of his manor of Ortneskirke, and are worth per ann. (clear) Es.Sd. Thomas Wiswall died 10 April last past (1619], and Ralph Wiswall, his brother and next heir, is aged at the time of taking this Inquisition 49 years and more. (Lancashire Inquisitions, p. 137, pub, by Record Society) Thomas married Alice Pickett on 20 October 1592 at Ormskirk, where she died in April 1618. She was buried in the church there on 12 April. Thomas was buried in the high chancell on 11 April 1619. Thomas had an illegitimate son, 7 Edward. baptized ‘on 7 March 1588/9 at Ormskirk, but the child must have Wed and he apparently had no children by his wife Alce. In addition. Ralph had a sister Anne who was apparently unmarried in 1632. She is mentioned in the inventory of his estate. James Wiswell. who died testate in 1603 leaving a widow Elizabeth. may have been another brother. He named a sister Elizabeth. children of his sister, and children of Sd Ralph Wiswell, altho he did not state the relationship of Ralph. An abstract of his will follows.
19 April 1603 - the will of James Wiswell of Wavertree in the parish of Childwall, county Lancaster, yeoman, being visited with sickness . . . to be buried in the parish church of Childwall . . . wife Elizabeth, son William unto such child or children as shall be born unto me hereafter either by this my wife or another, but if none, then that third to my sister's children, viz. Margaret Houghe, Edward Merser, Thomas Merser, Alice Merser. all the daughters of William Dwaryhouse, all the children of William Diconson. Jane Merser, all the natural chtldren of William Wright. Margerie Mosocke, and Margaret Mossock, saving that I - -doe give unto the children of Rauffe Wiswall soe much as one of my said sister's children shall have for their porcon out of the said third part. Another third part to various bequests including to James Diconson, Edward Merser £10 which his brother John doth owe to me, etc. . . unto Jane Merser any remainder of this third to wife and son William . .to sister Elizabeth (Lancashire Wills pr. at Chester)
Ralph Wiswell died early in 1631/2, for the inventory of his estate was taken on 13 March following. Note that in the following Inventory of Ralph's estate, among the listed creditors was his son John. Then there was listed Thomas, first noted as another son, then changed to read as his brother. This must be an error, for his brother Thomas was clearly dead. Later Ralph's sister was noted originally as sister of "the said John and Thomas Wiswell" and was then crossed out and corrected to read sister of Ralph . Clearly the scribe was confused and John and Thomas were Ralph's sons, Anne probably his sister, or possibly a daughter.

THOMAS WISWELL (Ralph, John probably) was baptized 20 September 1601 at Warrington, Lancashire. He and his twin brother Jolm both came to New England and settled in Dorchester as early as 1635. He was early made a freeman, was a proprietor of Dorchester and, with his wife Elizabeth, was a member of the church about 1636. He was a selectman of Dorchester in 1644, '45, and '52. On 5 June 1664 he was dismissed from the Dorchester church for the beginning of a new church at Cambridge Village (now Newton) and was chosen as ruling elder there. On 25 September 1657, he deeded his houses and lands in Dorchester to his son Enoch, who was about to marry. Thomas Wiswell married first, it is said, Elizabeth Burbage of Great Packington, Warwickshire. She was the mother of all his children and died between 1665 and 1669. Secondly, he married Isabell (Muston) Farmer, sister of the Reverend Thomas Muston of Wykin and afterwards of Brinldow in England. She was the widow of John Farmer of Anseley, Warwickshire. Thomas Wiswell was excused from military training on 6 October 1663, but had to pay 5 shillings per year to the military company. He was 62. He died on 6 December 1683, aged 82, and she died on 21 May 1686 at her son's home in Billerica.

The deed was signed by William Twining, Elizabeth Twining, Stephen Snow, Susanna Snow and Meriam Dean, the last by a mark; was acknowledged 5 April, 1669, by the five grantors, before John Freeman, Assistant; and was witnessed by Josias Cooke and Nicholas Snow.
On 5 April, 1669, Peter Warden transferred the property to "his sonne Kanelme Winslow" The deed was acknowledged the same day, and the witnesses were the same as in the preceding deed.

Dr Samuel WORDEN was born in 1645/46 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts, USA. He died on 26 Aug 1716 in Stonington, New London, Connecticut, USA.1399 He was buried on 27 Aug 1716. He was a Physician.1400 In 1672 Samuel Werden was proposed for a freeman. In New England, a man attained the status of freeman either as the eldest son or by owning a freehold estate; and in every town there was a commission appointed to examine that freehold estate and make sure its title was clear.
Sometime before 1693, Dr. Samuel bought land in Rhode Island, because in a deed registered there on 19 September 1693, Werden's Pond is called by his name. (Old N.K. Land Evidences, Volume 1, Page 223 in S.K. Townhouse.)
On 8 July 1695, he bought land consisting of 250 acres from Benedict Arnold, one of the original purchasers of a tract of land in this "collony comonly called Pitticomcott." This was originally purchased by Benedict Arnold in 1658 and comprises the present towns of South Kingston and Narragansett.
In 1696, Dr. Samuel sold his farm in the town of Yarmouth, Mass. to Isaac Chapman "except one half aker of land which I Samuel Werden except and reserve to myself and to my fathers posterity forever, lying square about the place where my father Werden was buried, out of the aforementioned farm, notwithstanding whatever is said above to the contrary, with free liberty of ingress and egress with horse or cart or foot from the common highway to same to have and to hold forever." He therefore preserved this land to all Wordens forever.
In the Norwich town clerk's office, Oliver Newton Worden found this precious record of conjugal and filial affection: "September 13, 1715, it was to me that woeful day in which my dear and tender and loving wife departed this life and was buried on ye 27th." "8 November 1752, then ye above written was entered from an ancient writing, at ye desire of Mr. Thomas Werden Jr. by me - Isaac Huntington, T.C." A few months after Hopestill died, Dr. Samuel married Francis West. In Stonington, Connecticut 18 September 1716, "Francis Werden, widow and relique of Samuel Werden late of Stonington dec. refuseth to administer upon ye estate of her late husband, Samuel Werden dec. and desireth that adm. may be granted to Isaac Werden. Isaac Werden died in 1718 and his wife Rebekah became administer for both estates.

ALAN LA ZOUCHE, Knt., of Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, Swavesey and Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, Great Gaddesden, Hertfordshire, Brackley, Northamptonshire, and Treve (in Tiflington), and Nutbourne (in Pulborough), Sussex, Constable of Rockingham Castle, son and heir, born at North Molton, Devon 9 Oct. 1267. He married ELEANOR DE SEGRAVE, daughter of Nicholas de Segrave, Knt., of Segrave, Leicestersbire, Lord Segrave, by Maud, daughter of Geoffrey de Lucy. Her maritagium evidently included the manor of Great Dalby, Leicestershire. They had three daughters, Ellen, Maud, and Elizabeth (nun at firewood). He was in Gascony with the King in 1288, when he was one of the hostages given by King Edward I to Alfonso of Aragón for the fulfilment of certain agreements. He was in Scotland on the King's service in June 1291, served in Gascony, 1295-96, and was summoned for service in Flanders in 1297. He fought in the vanguard at the Battle of Falkirk in Scotland 22 July 1298. He was summoned to Parliament from 6 Feb. 1298/9 to 26 Nov. 1313, by writs directed Alann la Zousche, whereby he is held to have become Lord Zouche or La Zouche. He was going to the Court of Rome in 1299. He was present at the siege of Caeilaverock inJuly 1300. He signed the Barons' letter to Pope Boniface in 1301 as Alanus la Zuche D'n's de Asheby. He was summoned in 1308 to King Edward II's Coronation. He made a pilgrimage to Santiago in Spain in 1308. He was going overseas with Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke, in 1313. SIR ALAN LA ZOUCHE, Lord Zouche, died shortly before 25 March 1313/4, and was buried at Brackley, Northamptonsbite. He was born about 1240-42 (aged 28 or 30 in 1270). They had one son, Alan, Knt. [Lord Zouche]. In the course of a lawsuit with John de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, Roger and his father were violently assaulted by Warenne before the Justices in Westminster Hall in 1270. He was summoned for service against the Welsh in 1277, 1282, and 1283. His wife, Ela, died before 19 July 1276. SIR ROGER LA ZOUCHE died shortly before 15 Oct. 1285.
