Photo Deacon Henry FARWELL78,310,311,661 was born about 1605 in , Boston, Lincolnshire, England.662 He signed a will on 12 Jul 1670 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.663 He died on 1 Aug 1670 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.22 [Torn suddenly] P. R. 1.-EXTRACTS FROM REV. JOHN FISKE'S NOTE-BOOK, NOW IN POSSESSION OF THE MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL SOCIETY. He had his estate probated on 4 Oct 1670 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.663

HENRY FARWELL son of William Farwell, was born in England, presumably about 1605: married in Boston, England, April 16, 1629, Olive Welby (or Welbie), dau. of Richard and Frances (Buckley) Welby, who was bapt. in Moulton, England, in 1604.

Henry Farwell came to New England. with his wife and two children about the year 1636. He settled first in Concord, where he lived until about 1655. when he became a resident of Chelmsford. He was Deacon of the church in Chelmsford. He died Aug. 1, 1670, in Chelmsford and the record states that he died "suddenly." His widow died there March 1, 1691-2.

Henry Farwell was a tailor by trade. His name does not appear in the index of Grantors and grantees in the Middlesex County, Mass,, Registry of Deeds. His holdings consisted of the land grants which he received from the towns of Concord and Chelmsford. He disposed of his property in his will made twenty days before his death. He lived on the Billerica road on the same side of it as Abraham Parker and Jacob Parker. His borne was nearer the village than theirs.

Fox, in his history of Dunstable, omits the name of Joseph as one of the children of Henry Farwell' and records Henry³ as the son of Henry¹, thus omitting a generation Savage, Kidder, Farmer and others have been misled by this mistake. A similar error has caused some genealogists to give James as one of the sons of Henry¹, but there is no evidence at all that Henry Farwell, the progenitor of the American family, had either a son Henry or a son James.

The first mention of the meeting house in Mr. Fiske's record incidentally supplies the names of church officers, and specifies the dates of their incumbency, as follows:

Thomas Hinchman and Henry Farwell were chosen deacons at a Church meeting 16 of 9___ 60. Bro. Hincksman was to keep the box booke and accounts of contributions. Bro. Kemp to provide the bread and the wine, and Bro. Farwl to take charge of the linen and pewter.

Before the introduction of bells it was the custom to summon the worshippers to meeting with a drum. Among the town charges in 1659 one was "for the paiment for A drum to Henry Farwell £3-5-0"

Petition to trade with Indians Henry Farwell (3rd name on the list). Proprietors in the New-Field, Feb. 1,1667, N. S., 22 persons named No. 6 ‘Henary ffarwell 6 Acres.

THE WILL OF HENRY FARWELL
the American ancestor of the FARWELL family, probably dictated from a sick bed, was drawn up twenty days before his death.

ISAAC FARWELL3 (Ensign Joseph2, Henry1), b. about 1678, in Chelmsford, Mass. in. probably about 1704, Elizabeth Hyde, of Newton, Mass, She was a dau. of Jonathan and Dorothy (Kidder) Hyde, and was b. May 23, 1680, in Newton. He is often mentioned between 1700 and 1719 in the land records o! Middlesex County, Mass. He was of Groton, Mass., Oct. 22, 1700, when he received land in Groton by deed from his father, Ensign Joseph Farwell. He was still residing there Aug. 22, 1704, when he purchased a dwelling house and land in Dunstable, Mass. His first purchase in Medford, Mass., was May 4, 1708, when he gave a negro man named Henry for land owned by Eleazer Wyer of Medford. It is probable that he removed to Mansfield, Conn., in 1721, which was his residence until his death, June 28, 1753. He is usually called a brickmaker in Middlesex County, Mass., land records, but in several instances his occupation is given as husbandman.

April 25, 1721, Isaac Farwell of Medford, Mass., bought land of George Momisco and nine other Indians. The tract is described as, lying in Hassanimisco in Suffolk Co. Hassanimisco afterward Grafton Mass.

He probably removed to Conn. shortly after this purchase.

Beside the land which he inherited from his father he bought other tracts. In addition to lands in Chelmsford and Dunstable he owned land in Groton, Mass. His grave stone in the Old Dunstable cemetery bears the inscription, Here lyes ye Body of Ensign Joseph Farwell, Dec'd December ye 81, 1722, in ye 82nd year of his age. His wife survived him. His will was filed for probate Jan. 16, 1722.

In the year 1700 Joseph Farwell2 bought with Thomas Colburn, his Son-in-law, the Waldo farm in Dunstable, bounded south by the Tyng farm, extending to the mouth of the brook near Tyngsborough meeting house, its Indian name Great Naaeook, to the mouth of Howard's brook, its Indian name Little Naacook, on which Washburn's brush factory is built, and extending from the river west to Brattle's farm. They made a division and Farwell took the southern part, and by his deed, dated May 14, 1702, conveyed one third part of his portion of the farm to his son Henry Farwell3. Joseph and Henry and their families removed to Dunstable in the year 1700 and settled upon this part, Joseph residing on the farm lately owned and occupied by his great grandson John Fanietk Joseph Farwell is styled in the Old Dunstable records Ensign Farwell. He was, immediately after is settlement in the town, employed in various offices in the town business. He was selectman in 1701, 2, 5, 7, 10, and also at earlier dates, highway surveyor in 1706, and on important committees in 1702, 7,12,16 and 17. In 1710 Ensign Farwell, Thomas Lund and Joseph Blanchard, selectmen, petitioned the Assembly for aid in supporting the ministry, and in 1711 it is recorded that they received £10 from the Assembly towards payment of salary of Mr. Paris. He was "Ensign" of the Chelmsford Military Co., 1687-1695. The printed Vital Records of Chelmsford, Mass., do not contain the name of Isaac, fifth child of above family, nor that of a daughter Olive, although both are mentioned by Hill in his Reminiscences of Old Dnnstable.' Lacking any proof that there was the daughter he mentioned, her name has beeb stricken from this record. Cbelmsford, Mass., vital Records.
